Echizen Washi

Thanks to a Chinese paper company who recently sent me an email, now I found that ` WASHI ` is being used as a product name in the world even though Chinese companies produce it.  The company was asking me what kind of materials we use for papermaking worrying whether they're using correct materials for ` Washi`.

WASHI literally means ` Japanese Paper `.  Looking back in the old times when Westerners used to call Japanese paper ` Rice Paper `, I was feeling glad that they now understand more about our paper by calling it ` Washi `, or Japanese paper.

But the truth is that I was only naive not knowing the name ` Washi ` could be used like ` Origami ` or  sushi, sake, tofu........... For consumers it's not really important to think about who makes it but they only pay attention to the image. And I think this image can be a `brand ` and it is what we have been establishing from the past. 

Good to know that people in the world use ` washi ` for some kind of paper which are not made in Japan.   Glad to know.
